Teen Reset: Learning to manage stress & overwhelm
Ages 14-18
What to Expect
Teen Reset is a calm, supportive, skills-focused group designed to help teens better understand stress and learn practical tools they can use in everyday life. Each session builds on the next, giving teens skills they can continue using long after the series ends.
Teens are never required to share and are always welcome to participate at their own comfort level.
Part 1: Understanding Stress
In the first session, teens will learn what stress actually is and how it shows up in the body and mind. Many teens experience stress without realizing what’s happening or why they feel on edge, overwhelmed, or exhausted.
This session focuses on:
Understanding how stress affects emotions, thoughts, and the body
Recognizing personal stress signals and patterns
Normalizing stress as a common experience, not a weakness
Teens will leave with greater awareness of their own stress responses and a foundation for using the skills taught in future sessions.
Part 2: Calming the Nervous System
This session focuses on practical calming tools teens can use in real-life situations, at school, before tests, during sports, or when emotions feel intense.
This session includes:
Simple breathing and grounding techniques
Learning how to calm the body when stress spikes
Practicing tools that help the nervous system reset
The goal is to help teens feel more in control when stress feels overwhelming and to show them that calm is something they can practice.
Part 3: Managing Overthinking & Pressure
Many teens struggle with overthinking, perfectionism, and pressure to perform. This session helps teens learn how to reduce mental overload and manage unhelpful thought patterns.
This session focuses on:
Identifying common sources of pressure and overthinking
Learning how to “unload” mental stress
Practicing simple strategies to shift perspective and reduce self-pressure
Teens will learn that they don’t have to believe every thought they have, and that doing their best does not mean being perfect.
Part 4: Stress Plans & Healthy Boundaries
The final session helps teens put everything together into a personal stress reset plan they can continue using on their own.
This session includes:
Identifying early signs of stress and burnout
Creating a personalized set of coping tools
Learning the importance of healthy boundaries with school, activities, and relationships
Teens will leave with a clear plan for managing stress moving forward and the confidence that they have tools they can rely on.
