Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ #1: What happens in the first counseling session?

In your first session, we’ll take things slow. You don’t need to have everything figured out or know exactly what to say. We’ll talk about what’s been stressful or overwhelming lately, what brought you to counseling, and what your goals might be. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of how therapy can help and what our next steps will be.

FAQ #2: Is what I share in therapy confidential?

Yes. Almost everything you share stays private. For teens, I explain confidentiality in a way that builds trust: parents are given general updates when appropriate, but the details of what you share remain confidential unless someone’s safety is at risk. Your privacy is protected, and you’re in control of your story.

FAQ #3: How long does therapy take before I feel better?

Every person is different, but many clients begin feeling some relief within the first few sessions as they learn new coping skills and gain clarity. Lasting change takes time, and we will move at a pace that feels right for you. Some clients come short-term to work through a specific issue, while others prefer longer-term support. We’ll figure out what fits your needs together.

FAQ #4: Do you work with clients who don’t know exactly what they’re struggling with?

Absolutely. Many clients come in knowing something feels “off” but can’t explain why. You don’t need a diagnosis or a clear label to start therapy. Part of my role is helping you understand your emotions, identify what’s causing stress or overwhelm, and create a plan that supports your well-being. You can come in unsure, we’ll figure it out together.

FAQ #5: How often will we meet for therapy?

Most clients start with weekly sessions to build momentum and consistency, especially when dealing with stress, anxiety, mood issues, or major life transitions. As you begin to feel more grounded and confident using your coping skills, we can move to biweekly or a schedule that fits your needs. Therapy is flexible, we adjust based on what feels most supportive for you.

FAQ #6: What insurance do you accept and what is your private pay rate?

I currently accept several major insurance plans, including Cigna, and Anthem. If you’re unsure whether your plan includes mental health benefits, I’m happy to help you check your coverage before your first appointment.

For clients who prefer not to use insurance or who want more privacy and flexibility, my private pay rate is $150 per session. Private pay allows us to focus fully on your goals without the restrictions insurance companies sometimes place on session length, frequency, or diagnosis requirements.

If you have questions about coverage, out-of-network benefits, or which option is right for you, feel free to reach out, I’m here to help you find the approach that best fits your needs.
